Data analytics: implementation of Matomo and a customised Power BI dashboard
Soa Aids Netherlands helps the public and professionals to successfully prevent, detect and treat HIV and other STIs. Soa Aids Netherlands does this by bringing together knowledge, research, policy, lobby and practice. From this basis, they provide everyone with reliable, tailored information.
Assignment
Thanks to a blog by data analyst Matthijs, Soa Aids Netherlands knew we were the right partner for Matomo support. Based on a measurement plan, we took care of the implementation of Matomo on the site of Soa Aids Netherlands. In the process, we also set up a dashboard in Matomo with a mix of standard and customised reports.
Soa Aids Netherlands wanted to know if the ‘one metric that matters’ could be determined for them, the key KPI on which you improve your website. The key KPI chosen was: what proportion of visitors actually seem helped by visiting the site. For this, it measures which visitors click through to important other websites or schedule an appointment at a GGD. It also measures whether visitors have been on the site long enough to have probably read the information. These two measurements are combined into a percentage of total visitors.
The next step was to develop the Matomo dashboard further so that it was no longer necessary to build the monthly reports manually in Excel. Our analysts therefore automated the dashboard, -storing data from Matomo in an Azure database. The data is then processed in a custom Power BI dashboard. As a result, web editors and content specialists always have an up-to-date overview of the website's performance and where it can be improved.
“Swink knows all the ins and outs of Matomo like no other internet agency in the Netherlands. Moreover, Matthijs taught us to look beyond the built-in standard reports. By linking Matomo to Power BI, we got a dashboard that gives us more insight into the main objective of Soaaids.nl: not just attracting visitors, but actually helping them.”

Swinker speaking
“By focusing on when a visitor is really helped, we get a KPI that is easy to visualise and shows at a glance how we are doing with the main goal of the website, which is to inform and refer people properly.”
