What is social return?

Social return is an approach to helping people who are distanced from the labor market find work. It is an important part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Through the Participation Act, the government has set a target of gradually creating 125,000 jobs for people with occupational disabilities by 2026. Various government organizations, such as the municipality of Amsterdam and the national government, therefore make social return a condition in a number of their tenders.

Why fulfill your social return with Swink?

Swink is both a commercial internet agency and a social enterprise. That makes us unique: over 70% of our employees have autism and are distanced from the labor market. This allows us to achieve a significant social return in a meaningful way. By working with us, you can easily fulfill your SROI (social return on investment) obligation and immediately have the right expertise to carry out your assignment. Our satisfied customers - including the Dutch government, Erasmus MC, and Triodos Bank - prove that quality is our top priority.

“The collaboration with Swink is going well. Communication lines are short, contact is pleasant, and we receive quick responses and assistance.”

PSO certification: proven impact

Swink has held PSO certification since August 2017 and is ranked at the highest level of the Performance Ladder for Social Entrepreneurship (PSO). This makes us one of the frontrunners in the field of social entrepreneurship. The PSO performance ladder is a scientifically based instrument developed by TNO that measures the extent to which a company engages in social entrepreneurship.

In addition to PSO level 3 certification, we also hold the 30+ (Abw) Certificate. This indicates that at least 30% of our employees come from vulnerable groups. At Swink, this is over 70%, which means we more than meet this standard. These certifications enable public organizations to award us contracts that require a high social return. The PSO quality mark guarantees that organizations that purchase from us are assured of sustainable jobs for people who are distanced from the labor market.

For agencies: reinforcement and flexibility

We enjoy working with other agencies as partners for their clients. This collaboration offers you three key advantages:

Specialist knowledge that complements yours

We specialize in digital accessibility and content management. This expertise is of great value to communication agencies that do not have this knowledge in-house. By sharing knowledge and leveraging each other's strengths, we work together to achieve optimal results for assignments that you would not be able to carry out on your own.

“Digital Insights Platform enjoys working with Swink because they are excellent professionals and also very pleasant people to work with. Swink and Digital Insights Platform join forces to view digital accessibility not as a one-off project but as an ongoing program. This ensures that accessibility is embedded at the core of the organization, making it not only easier but also better.”

Flexible capacity when needed

Some projects are too big to carry out entirely on your own. We have extensive experience with large content migrations and data entry projects, labor-intensive work that requires a high degree of accuracy. This is where our specialists with autism excel. Do you want to scale up quickly? Thanks to our flexible workforce, that's no problem.

Social return in government tenders

Government tenders increasingly require social return. We work with parties as subcontractors so that they can meet their social return obligations. This ensures labor participation that is directly linked to the assignment itself, while you are assured of our high quality.

“Working with Swink is extremely enjoyable. The people at Swink are incredibly driven to take digital accessibility, statistics, and content to the next level. They consistently prove themselves to be true specialists in their field. The fact that Swink also supports important social causes is the icing on the cake of a very pleasant partnership.”

For corporations: CSRD and ESG

Does your organization have a Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) obligation? Then work with us as part of your sustainability strategy. This will enable you to contribute to the theme of ‘Employment and inclusion of people with disabilities’, which falls under ESRS S2 ‘Employees in the value chain’.

The CSRD requires large listed companies to report on their sustainability strategy, objectives, and measures. ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) forms the foundation for this. Investors use these criteria to determine a company's sustainability and ethical impact. We have a demonstrable impact on the ‘S’ of ESG. A great win-win: you work on CSRD reporting and receive high-quality services at the same time.

More socially responsible procurement

By procuring in a socially responsible manner, you achieve SROI (social return on investment). Your investment contributes to creating jobs for people with disabilities. According to the Public Procurement Act, you can reserve contracts for social workshops and social enterprises. With a PSO 30+ certificate, a social enterprise demonstrates that it meets the requirements for a reserved tender. This allows you to make an impact with your procurement.
